geneType™ tests™ are for adults who want to be proactive about their health.

By understanding your risks you can confidently manage your healthcare priorities.

geneType™ gives you and your health provider access to:

  • Risk-reducing strategies, such as medications 
  • More disease screenings options, such as earlier or more frequent screenings
  • Genetic counsellor support, if needed

The first step is to speak with a healthcare provider to find out if a geneType™ test is right for you.

geneType™ testing is simple

Step 1

Speak to your healthcare provider.

If you order online, a third party telehealth provider will approve your order, if you qualify.

Step 2

In preparation for your healthcare provider conversation, be sure to have personal health information including family history of disease.
If you need time to collect clinical information, your test requisition can be paused while you and your healthcare provider access appropriate files. You may be contacted by the telehealth group, DNA Visit, if additional information is required.

Step 3

Collect a sample with the buccal swabs provided. Follow instructions carefully. Return in pre-addressed envelope to geneType.

Do not eat, drink, smoke, vape or chew gum within 30 minutes of collection.

Step 4

Leave the rest to us.

We will send your results to your healthcare provider. You will also be notified when your results are ready.

Your ordering healthcare provider will determine the follow-up procedure. to discuss your results. Turn-around time is 10-12 weeks

If you are ordering through telehealth

Please have your medical records easily accessible including recent bloodwork results such as cholesterol, triglyceride and fasting glucose levels. If you are female, that may also include your latest mammogram breast density results.

The Multi-Risk suite of tests is for adults 40-85 years of age. At maximum, a woman would be eligible for eight diseases in the panel; a man would be eligible for seven. Starting at age 30, a patient may qualify for geneType’s™ cancer risk assessments only.
